SKINS #ESPORTANTO
With more than 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries, and an estimated four billion spectators around the globe, Rio 2016 was set to be the sporting conversation of the summer. So naturally, Aussie sportswear brand SKINS wanted their say… but the IOC’s draconian Rule 40 had other ideas, and banned anyone but the official sponsors from using any associated words or images.
That’s when we created Esportanto: the first (un)official language of the Olympics and the sporting world. Communicating only in emojis wasn’t just a cheeky way of getting around the IOC’s blackout phase, it also allowed everyone on the planet to quickly comment and join the conversation.
Launch film
